Emerald Shines In Karl One-Two

Two Golden Races took place on the virtual racetracks over at Newturf.com yesterday, the Red Rum Derby and Red Rum II, both of which were hurdles races.

The first of the day’s two main events, The Red Rum Derby, was for two year olds only over a distance of 1600m and the going was described as soft. Owner Karl fielded two fillies in the race and they were to fill the first two slots. The eventual winner, Emerald Commander, had an enviable strike rate as a yearling winning eight of her eleven starts but had failed to get into the winners’ enclosure in her two outings so far this season, despite going close last time out.

She made no mistake this time however and the daughter of Lovegren might well progress again from here. She won in a time of 2:04.091 with stablemate, Dinner On Night in second place.

The day’s other main event, Red Rum II was restricted to five year olds only, this time over 3000m. Eleven runners went to post and it was Pigot’s mare, Phogger de Murailles who went on to collect the pot. Girtenmdb Va Girl finished second for owner Vourasie with Hister back in third. The race was completed in 4:06.063.
