Strategic can put an unfortunate tumble in his Breeders’ Cup qualifier behind him and gain quick compensation by landing the Inglis Drever Hurdle at Newturf on Thursday evening.
The Genghis Khan colt looked to be in control and in the process of handing a beating to Breeders’ Cup finalist Inglewood when taking a spill in his own qualifying race. Since then, Strategic has gone on to land an ordinary Grade G event which featured an extraordinary field. In the line up on this occasion were the first three fastest Breeders Cup qualifiers, Speed Music Pierji, Barreuse De Al and LA Duke but Strategic had the meaure of them all.
This event will be a true test however and there is plenty of virtual equine talent in attendance once again. Hurricane, owned by Thompson Stud, has a similar profile to the selection. He also took a fall in his BC qualifier but has shown he has an abundance of ability in his subsequent efforts and could give Strategic most to do.
Speed Music Pierji lines up once more but while the Music Speed colt is likely to be in the shake-up, there is no doubt that the Breeders’ Cup Final will be his primary early season target.
