Understanding the Newturf Horse Card (Stat Results)

The second key tool for evaluating form and making an informed decision in betting on races at Newturf Virtual Racetrack is the Horse Card (Stat Results) page. This can provide insight into a horse’s preferences and an indication of what type of conditions are likely to bring out the best in the horse. A description of each element is provided below the diagram.

Newturf Horse Card (Stat Results)

1. Best race times over the past 40 days. This section highlights the best times recorded by the horse on various types of ground and over different distances. The figure in black text is the time recorded. The figure in green is the date the time was recorded and the figure in blue shows the rank achieved and the total number of horses to have recorded a time under the same conditions within the time period. Caution should be taken when using this data for betting purposes. The reason for this is that at Newturf, horses progress on a daily basis and therefore only times recorded on the same day, as well as under the same conditions, are directly comparable.

2. Racing performances by distance. This section helps to identify the distance(s) at which the horse has performed best and is therefore most likely to do so in future races. It is broken down into each individual distance and also provides a total which can be used for comparison to average.

3. Racing performances by type of ground. This section helps to identify the ground conditions on which the horse has performed best and is therefore most likely to do so in future races. It is broken down into each individual going and also provides a total which can be used for comparison to average. This information can be particularly useful when making evaluations for betting purposes.

4. Age. This sections helps to identify whether a horse is at its peak, still improving or is perhaps on the downgrade. The example shown is for a one year old horse but for older seasons you might see data covering several seasons. At Newturf, horses may reach their peak at different ages; some early in their careers, others not until later.
