Go For Amber In Full Moon

Yet another winning day for followers of Buzz on Friday as our best bet, Maxidon, never looked in danger and duly obliged as expected. Buzz readers have now been treated to winning selections every day this week. Just a single race for us to tackle on Saturday’s card from Newturf virtual racecourse but it is one that appeals as a betting medium.

Newturf virtual racecourseThe Full Moon Hurdle is a 2000m race for the classic generation and fourteen go to post. Shaolin de Bellouet who scored for us at generous odds earlier in the week lines up again and is likely to be in the shake-up but he is unlikely to go off at that type of value price this time. Horus Pu Palais, the Breeders’ Cup winner, also re-opposes and he will be happier on this ground than the bottomless conditions he encountered in the Long Walk. That gives him a strong chance here but I’m going to take a chance on Amber Girl.

The going will be yielding on Saturday and this makes the form of the Breeders’ Cup Qualifiers even more pertinent than the Breeders’ Cup itself, as the ground was a little quicker there. A number of today’s contenders were running that day, including most of the principals and the one that stood out was Amber Girl. She put in a time quicker than Shaolin de Bellouet, Horus Pu Palais, Sexy Devil, Strateg Piet and Miss Fruit. While there might not be a great deal in it,  I see no reason why she shouldn’t have the better of all of those here. The only one in the line up to record a quicker time than the selection was Jemchipsa Mango but with the blinkers on Amber Girl, I believe she will be capable of bridging the gap this time. Amber Girl appeared to be hampered for a few strides in the Breeders’ Cup Final and may have been a touch unlucky not to go even closer than her third place. She can gain some compensation now.

Any kind of forecast in this race could be tough to say the least as there are a whole host of likely types for the places. If you’re looking for something a little more speculative in the race, two that are worth a close look are Duplicitypsg and Strateg Piet. The former has bags of ability but has got it wrong far too often. It would come as no surprise to see her involved in the finish but she has been too unreliable to be a serious betting proposition. Strateg Piet had a horrendous passage in the Breeders’ Cup and with more luck in running would have gone close. I suspect this colt might prefer a slightly sounder surface but he can still go well here. He could be worth a little each-way if the odds are reasonable. Whatever he does today though, Strateg Piet is one for the notebook and can pick up a big race before too long.
