Fruit Looks Ripe In Zaiyad

Newturf virtual racecourse

Our best bet of the day could only finish third on Sunday but we still managed to tip the winners of two of the four races we covered ensuring another profitable day for our followers. That’s a profit every day this week. We have a three race card from Newturf virtual racecourse on Monday with the feature being the Zaiyad Hurdle.

Newturf virtual racecourseFirst up though we have the Sakhee’s Secret Derby (19:40 Newturf), a G1 1200m sprint for five year olds. Three of these – Miesque D’Ourasi, Maxima XII and Precipite de Sky met in the Danehill Derby over the same trip and on ground very much like it will be today. There is likely to be very little between the trio this time too, with Miesque D’Ourasi expected to come out on top once more. At potentially skinny odds this may be a race that is best left alone.

The No Excuse Needed Derby (20:00 Newturf) is not the strongest looking grade two race you are ever likely to see. Some of these are not fully exposed but two that stand out are X-Man and Exotic Walk. These two met recently on softer ground than today’s with X-Man coming out on top. Despite the slightly firmer surface, I fancy the pacier Exotic Walk can turn the tables this time. Again though, this is not a race I would want to get too heavily involved in.

The Zaiyad Hurdle (Newturf 20:10) looks more interesting. Several of these have claims on their best form but the two to concentrate on are Lermontov and Miss Fruit. Lermontov was leading the field when coming down in the Breeders’ Cup Final and some might argue he would have won but I disagree. Amber Girl, who finished third and Strateg Piet, were both met trouble in running and were the real hard luck cases of the race. That’s not to say Lermontov is not a good horse – he clearly is but to suggest he would have won the Breeders’ Cup is probably over-estimating his ability. Even so, his defeat of Golden Ball in a HHHC race would still be sufficiently strong form to see him go close her on ground that will suit.

I was impressed by the run of Miss Fruit in the Full Moon Hurdle a few days ago when finishing third on yielding ground. She showed a tremendous amount of speed that day and lost nothing in defeat by chasing home Amber Girl. The quicker ground today will suit her too and with the blinkers on, can make the most of her pace to see off chief rival, Lermontov. This is not a two horse race however and Strateg Piet, Junior, Demon Queen and others should come into any forecast calculations.
