Haisty Kid Favored in Equination Silver Platter

Coming up this Sunday in Equination is the fifteenth annual running of the Silver Platter Stakes (GIII). The mile and a sixteenth event on the dirt is open to three-year-olds and is considered a prep race for the Equination.net Derby (GI), which is the first jewel of the Triple Crown series. A purse of $300,000 is available and here we will take a look at this competitive field of contenders.

Rev em Up was the top Two-Year-Old Male of last season after winning the Equination.net Hopeful (GII) and finishing second in the Breeders Cup (GI). In his second start this season he earned his HRR of 126.75 while winning a Listed Stake. On the 19th he dipped slightly in workout rating to post a 108 rated half-mile but will still be one to watch out for in this race.

Extreme Dude ran tenth in the Hopeful and fourth in the Breeders Cup last season. He has really hit his stride this season, though, and won a Listed Stake last time out with a career-best 127.5 rating. He does look like he will be running for the third time in a row here, though.

Equination.net Silver Platter Stakes.Kilkelly finished fifth in the Hopeful last season. She earned her HRR of 120.4 at the end of her two-year-old campaign and won last time out with a 114.2 rating at the Listed Stake level. On the 17th she covered a half-mile with a 112 rating.

Bonafide Gentleman was third in the Hopeful and thirteenth in the Breeders Cup last season. In his seasonal bow he earned a career-best 123.4 rating while winning an Allowance race. Since then he has posted two workouts of a 96.65 rated half-mile on the 11th and a 103.9 rated half-mile on the 18th.

Sinful King finished second in the Hopeful and fifth in the Breeders Cup as a two-year-old. He earned his HRR of 123.2 in the Hopeful and has had a dismal start to this season. He ran third last time out with a 110.8 rating in an Allowance race. He prepped over a half-mile from the gates with a 99 rating on the 19th and will need a big improvement for this one.

Magic Zi is making his graded stake racing debut. He earned his HRR of 126.95 at the end of last season. Last time out he ran second with a 117.5 rating in an Allowance race. He will likely be starting for the third time in a row here.

Haisty Kid finished third in the Breeders Cup last season with a career-best 124 rating. In his debut this season he ran second in a Listed Stake with a 117.5 rating. Since then he has prepped with a sizzling 120.75 rated half-mile workout on the 16th. Owner March Farm 2 is expecting a bold show from him here.

Iron Rose MD was seventh in the Breeders Cup last season. Last time out she earned her career-best 118.1 rating while finishing second in a Listed Stake. On the 21st she breezed a half-mile with a 105.7 rating. Her owner says it was lower than usual and is expecting her to at least make a good effort.

Etseri is making his graded stake racing debut here. He exits an Allowance victory last time out with a career-best 125.1 rating. On the 21st he worked a quarter-mile with a 109.8 rating.

RP Just Another Dakkar MD will be starting in a graded stake for the first time here. She won a Listed Stake last time out with a career-best 123.1 rating. On two back to back days she posted workouts with a 107.2 rated half-mile from the gates on the 17th and a 108 rated half-mile on the 18th.

No Room at the Inn ran seventh in the Hopeful and eighth in the Breeders Cup last season. He has been doing well as a three-year-old, hitting his stride last time out with a career-best 127.9 rated Allowance win. On the 17th he worked a half-mile with a sharp 112.5 rating.

Crusty Pixel is making her graded stake racing debut. She earned her career-best 120.4 rating in her seasonal bow, where she won a Listed Stake. On the 19th she posted a solid 114.63 rated half-mile workout.

Scott’s Greeting MDc is another making her graded stake racing debut here. She holds a HRR of 121.4 from her seasonal bow and exits a 120.1 rated Allowance win last time out. She could be running back to back here.

Island Tale For Fashions will be making his graded stake racing debut here. He really hit his stride in his three-year-old debut to win a Listed Stake with a 124.8 rating. He has worked twice since then with a 105.6 rated half-mile breeze on the 14th and a 115.4 rated half-mile work from the gates on the 19th and looks ready.

Happily Blue is another making her graded stake racing debut here. She earned her HRR of 119.4 three starts ago and exits a 112.1 rated second-place finish in an Allowance race. She prepped on the 19th with a slow 102.28 rated half-mile workout.

Jaded In Blue ran fourth in the Hopeful and sixth in the Breeders Cup last season. He holds a HRR of 119.8 from the Breeders and his debut was less than impressive with a 109.8 rated third-place finish in an Allowance. He worked a half-mile on the 16th with a 106.55 rating and then received some turnout on the 17th. Owner March Farm says the turnout was beneficial but isn’t sure how he will respond.

Baybee Beluga was twelfth in the Hopeful last season. In her seasonal debut she earned her career-best 115.4 rating while finishing second in a Listed Stake. She has worked twice since then with a 112.17 rated half-mile on the 14th and a 114.5 rated half-mile on the 19th. She is no stranger to high workouts, though, and needs to improve to hit the board here.
