Two to Waltz Takes On Tough Sunshine Field

The Triple Tiara series for three-year-old fillies continues this Saturday with the twenty-fifth annual running of the Sunshine Stakes (GI). The race has been upgraded to Grade I status for the first time and offers a $750,000 purse. It is a mile and three-sixteenths race on the dirt. Two to Waltz captured the first jewel, the Equination.net Oaks, and will try to become the first filly to be on her way to the Triple Tiara sweep. Here, we’ll take a look at the field of contenders.

Two to Waltz heads the field after her Oaks victory last time out. She earned a career-best 124 rating while doing so, which was her third 120+ rated effort of her last five starts. She was also sixth in the A.A. Classic (GIII) as a two-year-old. Since the Oaks she has posted two workouts over a half-mile with a 110.7 rating on the 13th and a 109.5 rating on the 15th.

Achievement has finished sixth in the Equination.net Hopeful (GII) and eleventh in the Breeders Cup (GI) as a two-year-old. She finally broke 120 and holds a HRR of just 120.2 from two starts ago. Last time out she won an Allowance race with a 113.95 rating. On the 16th she prepped over a half-mile with a 106.2 rating, which is about average for her.

Crafty Hanover MDm finished a solid third in the Oaks last time out. She earned her HRR of 123.75 while doing so, too. She has since posted a half-mile workout on the 14th with a 110 rating, but she worked a bit higher than that prior to the Oaks.

Tequila Stripes MD finished twelfth in the Oaks two starts ago and ran right back in an Allowance race to win with a 119.25 rating. She has a HRR of only 120.7 and will probably be racing back to back for the third time in a row here.

Volta just lost out to Two to Waltz in the photo finish in the Oaks, settling for second with a career-best 124 rating. She looks ready to duel again after prepping twice over a half-mile from the gate, earning a 118 rating on the 11th and a 111.5 rating on the 16th.

Serena Moon captured the Breeders Cup as a two-year-old and ran fourth in the Oaks last time out, earning a 122.5 rating. In the Breeders Cup she earned a career-best 127.2 rating. She still looks to be in decent form, prepping with a 112.43 rated half-mile on the 11th.

Faith is Tim finished tenth in the Breeders Cup and was seventh most recently in the Oaks with a 119.05 rating. Four starts ago she hit her HRR of 122.95, which was the second of two 122+ rated efforts in her five most recent starts. Her form may have taken a bit of a dip, though, as she prepped over a half-mile on the 16th with a 103.73 rating.

Tiffany Conda exits an eleventh-place finish in the Oaks last time out, earning a 116.5 rating in that race. Four starts ago she hit her HRR of 122.55, which is her lone 120+ rated effort of her five most recent starts. She has posted two workouts since the Oaks with a 103.7 rated half-mile on the 11th and a 105.25 rated half-mile on the 15th.

Five More Minutes is making her graded stake racing debut here. She hit her first 120 and earned her HRR of 121 last time out while winning an Allowance race. She has worked twice since then over a half-mile with a 109.93 rating on the 12th and a 110.48 rating on the 15th.

Fantasy Free comes here after finishing eighth in the Oaks last time out with a 118.35 rating. Five starts ago she earned her HRR of 121, which is her lone 120+ rated effort of her five most recent starts. Her form looks like it has dropped significantly as she prepped over a quarter-mile on the 12th with a 99.63 rating and then over a half-mile on the 15th with a 98.63 rating.

Kilkelly has finished fifth in the Equination.net Hopeful, eighth in the Silver Platter Stakes (GIII) and sixth in the Oaks last time out. She earned a 119.5 rating in the Oaks and holds a HRR of 122.5 from the Silver Platter Stakes two starts ago. On the 16th she worked a half-mile from the gates with a 109.9 rating, but has posted some big numbers before.

Wretched Classic is making her graded stake racing debut here. Her form is a bit up and down and includes a couple of Optional Claiming $100,000 appearances with sub-110 ratings. She broke 120 and earned her HRR two starts ago of 120.45. Last time out she won an Allowance race with a 113.6 rating. Things look to be turning around for her, though, as she posted a 117.45 rated half-mile workout from the gates on the 11th.

Twisted Moon was thirteenth in the Equination.net Hopeful, fourteenth in the Breeders Cup and fifteenth in the Oaks. She ran right back after the Oaks and won an Allowance race with a 120.7 rating. She also holds a HRR of 123.2 from three starts ago. She will more than likely be running back to back here.

Supreme Attraction ran sixteenth and last in the Oaks last time out with a 110.5 rating. Four starts ago she earned her HRR of 122.6. She has trained since the Oaks, but not with a workout.

Crusty Pixel comes here after finishing sixth in the Silver Platter Stakes and ninth in the Oaks last time out. She earned her HRR of 122.5 in the Silver Platter and earned a 117.5 rating in the Oaks. She may not be on top of her game, though, after prepping with a 101.93 rated half-mile on the 10th.

Baybee Beluga finished twelfth in the Equination.net Hopeful, tenth in the Silver Platter Stakes and third in the Red Rose Cup (GIII) last time out. She earned her HRR of 122.5 in the Red Rose Cup, which was her first 120+ rating. On the 13th she worked a half-mile with a 114.5 rating but is no stranger to 110+ rated workouts.
