We return to racing action at Newturf Virtual Racecourse on Sunday with a promising looking three race card – two sprint hurdles and a mile flat race offer some tempting fare for the profit-seeking punter.

However, it might be worth taking a chance with Far West. This colt showed more pace than anything else in the field on soft ground in an early season HHHC Qualifier. He didn’t see it out on that occasion and that possibility remains a danger here too but recent performances suggest he is improving in this respect and to small stakes it could be worth giving him the benefit of the doubt.
Our best bet of the day comes in the Carpenter Derby (19:50 Newturf), a Listed event for four year old horses. The form choice here would have to be Ut Pluvia. This mare is likely to make another bold bid from the front and her high cruising speed may well have them all off the bridle but I can see her being overhauled by one with greater stamina. The one I want to be on here is Holy Mackeral. I was impressed by him when he stayed on resolutely to fill the runner-up spot in the Bahri Derby on soft ground, similar to that he will encounter here. This colt may not be the quickest but he is far from being a plodder and he has stamina in abundance. He has the blinkers on for today’s contest and providing he doesn’t get too far adrift early on, I can see him powering past his opponents in the closing stages.
