Two to Waltz Takes On Tough Sunshine Field

The Triple Tiara series for three-year-old fillies continues this Saturday with the twenty-fifth annual running of the Sunshine Stakes (GI). The race has been upgraded to Grade I status for the first time and offers a $750,000 purse. It is a mile and three-sixteenths race on the dirt. Two to Waltz captured the first jewel, the Equination.net Oaks, and will try to become the first filly to be on her way to the Triple Tiara sweep. Here, we’ll take a look at the field of contenders.

Two to Waltz heads the field after her Oaks victory last time out. She earned a career-best 124 rating while doing so, which was her third 120+ rated effort of her last five starts. She was also sixth in the A.A. Classic (GIII) as a two-year-old. Since the Oaks she has posted two workouts over a half-mile with a 110.7 rating on the 13th and a 109.5 rating on the 15th.

Crafty Hanover MDm finished a solid third in the Oaks last time out. She earned her HRR of 123.75 while doing so, too. She has since posted a half-mile workout on the 14th with a 110 rating, but she worked a bit higher than that prior to the Oaks.

Tequila Stripes MD finished twelfth in the Oaks two starts ago and ran right back in an Allowance race to win with a 119.25 rating. She has a HRR of only 120.7 and will probably be racing back to back for the third time in a row here.

Tiffany Conda exits an eleventh-place finish in the Oaks last time out, earning a 116.5 rating in that race. Kilkelly has finished fifth in the Equination.net Hopeful, eighth in the Silver Platter Stakes (GIII) and sixth in the Oaks last time out. She earned a 119.5 rating in the Oaks and holds a HRR of 122.5 from the Silver Platter Stakes two starts ago. She broke 120 and earned her HRR two starts ago of 120.45. Last time out she won an Allowance race with a 113.6 rating. Things look to be turning around for her, though, as she posted a 117.45 rated half-mile workout from the gates on the 11th.

Twisted Moon was thirteenth in the Equination.net Hopeful, fourteenth in the Breeders Cup and fifteenth in the Oaks. She ran right back after the Oaks and won an Allowance race with a 120.7 rating. She also holds a HRR of 123.2 from three starts ago. She will more than likely be running back to back here.

Crusty Pixel comes here after finishing sixth in the Silver Platter Stakes and ninth in the Oaks last time out. She earned her HRR of 122.5 in the Silver Platter and earned a 117.5 rating in the Oaks. She may not be on top of her game, though, after prepping with a 101.93 rated half-mile on the 10th.
